1805

A new, more rapid postal transportation, first military, system is activated (Estafettes).

24 April 1806

A new rate for letter mail creates new tax zones because of territorial acquisitions.

17 May 1817

A simpler management replaces the business administration of letter mail: letter mail operations are thus for the benefit of the state.

6 August 1817

The regulation of franchises and counter-signatures: money order service is extended to the public at large.

1819

Facing the increase of mail wastes, an ordinence of 20 January is foreseing the back to the sender, restricts the time of custody, and organise the sold of the contents of mail for the benefit of the collectivity.

1827

New rates and the use of post marks to ensure the quality of delivery.

1829

The first registered letter service, exclusively to Paris addresses. It will be offered to all post offices on 1 September 1844.

1830

As of 1 April, the Sapey law (of 3-10 June 1829) establishes delivery service and the installation of mail boxes in the countryside to alleviate the isolation of the rural population. The postal service installs its first propeller ship, the Napoleon,  connecting Toulon and Corsica.

1832

The law of 21 April provides for daily rural service. This measure will only become effective throughout France during the years 1863-1864.

1835

Antoine Conte, director of postal service, chooses the first official uniform for mailmen, but does not impose a strict dress code requiring it.
